Portalais began in 2000 as the vision of the owners of a luxury home building company in Northern California. Their clients at the time where buying these special, hand made and antique elements in France . After many phone calls and trips to factories, the clients were unsure their items would be properly cared for en route. The client, architect and contractor all had concerns as these products were newly introduced to the US market. Installation could be difficult and there was no warranty or service follow-up. They saw a need to be filled and Portalais was born! Years and many projects later, Portalais has grown to be recognized as both a reliable and prime source for those looking to create the home of their dreams.

To enhance the home building experience, Portalais arranges for personal tours of special, hard to find sources of beautiful stone and wood elements. These tours are designed to mix a pleasurable vacation visit to France or Italy with access to great sources at wholesale prices. We tour warehouses full of antique doors and pick one to have refinished for that special location in a home or make that final decision on hardware by viewing hundreds of exceptional pieces at the factory. Tour stone quarries to choose the stone for your special peice and visit "boneyards" full of great stone "finds".
